Donation receipt
Will I receive a donation receipt?
If you donate online using our form, you will automatically get a receipt in February of the following year. If you donate by bank transfer and need a receipt, please let us know your address and your email address in the reference field.
When will I receive the donation receipt?
We always send out donation receipts in February of the following year.
What can I do if I have not received a donation receipt?
In this case, please send us an email to donate@algorithmwatch.org so that we can send you your receipt as soon as possible.
Deduct donation from tax
Can I deduct my donation from taxes?
Yes, your donation is tax-deductible, up to an amount of 300 euros per year even without a donation receipt. If the amount is higher, submitting a donation receipt is mandatory. You will automatically receive your receipt in February of the following year, regardless the amount, if you donate via our online form.
Can I also claim my donations for tax purposes outside Germany?
AlgorithmWatch is recognized as a non-profit organization by the German tax authorities. The deductibility of donations outside Germany is regulated in the respective countries. Please contact their tax authorities for further information.
Supporting membership
What is a supporting membership?
With our supporting membership, you officially become a “Friend of AlgorithmWatch.” With a permanent donation of 5 euros a month or more, you commit long-term to human rights in the digital space and enable research and education on the topic of AI and algorithms. Set an example for more justice and transparency in the use of AI and algorithms and become a supporting member of AlgorithmWatch today!
What are my benefits as a supporting member?
You will receive an exclusive welcome package with a small thank-you gift for our supporting members. We will also keep you updated with all the latest developments in our work and invite you to AlgorithmWatch events, where we talk about current topics, online or on site.
What is the difference between a recurring donation and a supporting membership?
As a supporting member, you belong to the inner circle of AlgorithmWatch. This makes you part of our community ♡.
Can I change my recurring donation into a supporting membership?
Of course! Let us know that you would like to transform your recurring donation into a supporting membership and send an e-mail to donate@algorithmwatch.org. If you have any questions, please contact us at any time.
For companies
Can my company donate to AlgorithmWatch?
Yes, we would very much welcome a donation from your company. Please find more information about the conditions of a corporate donation here. If you have any questions, please contact Lea Wolff: wolff@algorithmwatch.org.
How do we decide whether or not to accept a donation from a company?
We reserve the right not to accept donations if they might interfere with our ability to research and investigate issues independently, thoroughly, and objectively, or if they come from companies whose objectives contradict our values (see our mission statement). If we come to the conclusion that this risk exists, we will reach out to you to discuss the specific case. In case of doubt, we will refund donations.
Can companies claim donations for tax purposes?
Yes, companies can deduct donations from their taxes. However, the deductible amount is limited to 20 percent of the total amount of income.
Can companies use the AlgorithmWatch logo?
The use of the AlgorithmWatch logo is only possible after a consultation with us.
Gift donations
What is a gift donation?
We would be delighted if you would like to give away your donation to AlgorithmWatch as a gift. To do this, you can create a donation certificate in our online form, and then download it.
How do I get a donation certificate?
First choose a certificate from our donation certificate store. Then personalize it. You can download the certificate directly as a PDF document. You will also receive the document in an e-mail.
Can I receive the donation certificate by postal mail?
If you donate 100 euros or more, you will receive your donation certificate by postal mail by default. If you are interested in receiving your donation certificate by postal mail, please send an email to donate@algorithmwatch.org.
Purpose of the donations
What will my donations be used for?
The donations and grants fund our work to raise awareness about AI and algorithms. In our current transparency report, you will find all information concerning the use of donations.
Use of the logo
As a private donor, may I use your logo?
Private individuals and companies may not use the AlgorithmWatch logo for their own purposes without prior consultation.
